Frog Lane clients move in
Our Frog Lane clients have moved in. We spent a wonderful weekend with them in the new house. Even though the MVHR wasn’t fully commissioned, the house was wonderfully warm and fresh, as would be expected from a passivhaus.
Badgers Wood gains planning approval
We are thrilled to have received planning permission for this replacement dwelling in Buckinghamshire.
Glebe Fields submitted for planning
We have just submitted this proposal for planning. It is designed to comply with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) for a client with progressive Motor Neuron Disease. The house has been designed to provide the majority of the living space and master bedroom on one level, with three bedrooms on the lower level, which is not easy on a sloping site. The rest of the house is accessible via an internal lift.
The house is designed to appear as a collection of agricultural/equestrian buildings due to its rural location.
Badgers Wood submitted for planning
We have just submitted this proposal for a replacement dwelling in Buckinghamshire for planning. It will replace a dilapidated 1960s precast concrete bungalow with a light, bright contemporary house that will maximise connections with the garden, and will be close to passivhaus.

Frog Lane SIPs Go Up
The Frog Lane SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels) have gone up. All of the timber structure took only 11 days to erect.
The basement was constructed using ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) which took 5 days to erect and 1 day to fill. That’s not bad for a 3 storey house 4/6 bedrooms.

Barbury Castle Planning Permission Granted
After a very long and drawn out planning application and a long committee meeting, permission has finally been granted. The committee agreed that it was a truly exciting and pioneering design. It’s always nice to sit in a meeting and hear those words about your work. You can read more about the design here

Work starts on the Hitchambury Para 55 project
We are excited to have begun work on the detail design of the Hitchambury Farm project. This is a cutting edge passivhaus project which was granted planning permission under NPPF Para 55. Work is expected to start on site later this year.
Two news articles about NPPF Para 55 homes
Home Building and Renovating magazine have writen two articles about NPPF Para 55 projects. The first is a useful list of all Homes Built Under Para 55. The second is a very informative article about Building a New Home in the Countryside: Paragraph 55 Guide. The best bit is that our projects are the first buildings you see. Quite pleased with that.
Planning permission in five weeks…
Stratford-on-Avon Planning department as just given us planning permission for The Spinney, a major refurbishment and extension. The whole application was turned around in five weeks. Thanks Stratford.
Another NPPF Para 55 permission granted…
Our passivhaus project at Hitchambury Farm, Taplow, has been granted planning permission, following an appeal hearing on the 9th September. The appeal inspector found “that the careful siting, composition and articulation of the architectural forms into a naturalistic setting would reflect the highest standard in architecture”
This has set quite an important precedent, being (we believe) the first new para. 55 house to have been permitted in Green Belt that isn’t a replacement dwelling.
This was achieved in conjunction with Pegasus Group as landscape and planning consultants.
The project has been awarded funding by the Technology Strategy Board for the work being done by Ulster University on the planned Seasonal Thermal Energy Store.
Perry Pear Orchard awarded NPPF Para 55
We are excited to say that the Perry Pear Orchard project was unanimously granted planning permission at what was a very long and exhausting four hour committee meeting. We believe this to be the first NPPF Para 55 to be built on virgin land. We also aim for it to be the first Passivhaus Premium project in the UK.
The Guardian Top Ten UK Eco Homes
We are really pleased that Underhill House has been listed as one of The Guardian’s Top Ten UK Eco Homes. The public has been asked to vote on the number one slot, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Perry Pear Orchard planning application is submitted
We have submitted the application for our latest Passivhaus, except this time we are aiming for the Passivhaus Premium standard. This standard is soon to be announced at the International Passivhaus Conference on the 25th/26th April by Dr Feist. Passivhaus Premium is a house that produces more energy than it uses on a yearly cycle.

The Long Barn Planning Success
We have just received planning consent for the conversion of an existing barn near Chipping Campden. The barn will be converted into four holiday let units. Planning consent was also given for the construction of a new building to accommodate a biomass boiler.
Our Cheltenham Passivhaus has now been certified — only the 13th certified detached dwelling in the UK!

Brighton Planning Permission
We have just received planning permission for our project in a Conservation Area in Brighton.
We have just received the SAP energy efficiency rating for our Cheltenham Passivhaus project — a nice teaser for the imminent Passivhaus certification.
Cheltenham Air Leakage Test
Our Eldorado Crescent Passivhaus project has passed the air leakage test. Passivhaus certification on the way!
In the last 5 weeks we have received 4 planning approvals from 4 planning applications for a variety of new build, change of use, extension and refurbishment projects.
North Wing Monitoring
Monitoring of the North Wing has started. We have 14 log tag sensors measuring the temperature and humidity, inside and outside of this old house. We even have sensors on the heating pipes, monitoring the heating system. Electricity usage and generation is also being monitored, and I am keeping count of the lorries delivering litres of the filthy black stuff. I can’t wait to ignominiously eject the boiler from the house.
