Rectory Cottage

Barton-on-the-Heath, Warwickshire

An extension to an 18th Century detached house located in the village of Barton–on–the–Heath, within the Cotswolds AONB and Barton–on–the–Heath Conservation Area.

The clients approached us to design a sympathetic extension to the existing house, accommodating a dining room overlooking the wonderful view to the east, a utility and plant room to house a new wood pellet boiler (replacing the existing oil boiler), a new kitchen in place of the old, and a master bedroom with ensuite on the first floor.

Oriented north–to–south, the long rectangular form of the house fails to take advantage of the wonderful views to the east. Our proposed extension features folding–sliding glass doors to the ground floor dining room, providing both a physical and visual link with the landscaped gardens and view beyond.
